Day 30 of 365:

{Simple, Single Image on Saturday}

Tired….pre-occupied and no ambition to write and compose new material for a post today.

Still sifting through all my archived photographs in my library though.  I do enjoy getting lost in the nostalgia of these images I captured in the past.  Like the rose above….I like the details and the soft shape of the petals.  Kinda dreamy, huh?

I think I may add this one to my portfolio…

Happy Saturday…

All Is Good.

Day 29 of 365:

Short and sweet tonight….

You know that feeling you get, when you finally come home after a long day, and you can sit and do your favourite thing?  And you’re like “finally!  I can relax!”.  Then you put on your comfy pants and fuzzy socks, or whatever makes you feel snug and cozy….that is just the best feeling in the whole world, isn’t it?

That’s me, right now, at this very moment.  My favourite thing involves a glass of wine and sitting in my bed with my laptop.  My next favourite thing, after I am finished my glass of wine, will be crawling under the covers and having nice, deep, sleep for 7 or 8 hours.

It’s all good.

And that is all!

Good night!!

No So Ritual

Day 28 of 365:

Being at a conference in lovely downtown Toronto means that today has been anything but a usual and customary day for me.

From the 5 am wake-up time, to fighting traffic as I made my way into the city, to standing on my feet, in heels, for 8 hours, striking up conversations with people I do not know – yeah – today was definitely not a normal day for little old me.

Now it’s after 8:30 pm, I’ve only been home for an hour….but I have to get up first thing in the morning to do it all over again tomorrow.  (and the day after that too.)

So now I am off to bed!

Not before I squeeze out my daily blog post though…which, by the way, is happening hours after it normally does.  On a normal day.  Which today has not been at all.  Did I mention that yet??  :p

And now, on a somewhat related note, here is a photo of a hot, frothy caffeinated beverage.  I usually like to have one of these in the afternoon, however, given my circumstances today, I was not able to:20160125_145900-afternoon-coffee-writing-the-girl

Looks yummy, huh? I took this before I drank it, a few days ago…on a normal day…

Okay, I’m zonked from all my “out-of-the-norm” activities.  Plus, I still have to figure out what I am going to wear tomorrow, and tweak a Power Point presentation.

so….yeah…..enough blogging for me.

Good Night!

Just Another Day

Quote Me.

Day 27 of 365:

Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?

{Daily Post Writing Prompt}

“Quote Me” – ha!  I wonder if there will ever come a day when people are quoting me, instead of the other way around.  :)  …probably not…

My choices of favourite and often used quotes has changed and grown as I have changed and grown and journeyed through my life.

For instance, when I was in high school, I had a habit of quoting Kurt Cobain, almost every 90’s teenager’s messenger boy:PRS-SE-Angelus-Standard-Electro-Acoustic-Guitar

“I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.”

When I was in college, I loved quoting lines from my favourite movies of the time.  Namely, Pulp Fiction, which is full of awesome and witty one-liners that I think should be paid attention to:

“Just because you are a character doesn’t mean that you have character.” (The Wolf)

And then I became a mom to a little boy.  My outlook, and search for enlightenment, changed dramatically.  As most parents will often find, Dr. Seuss is an endless wealth of inspiration and wisdom to lovingly impart on your child and live by as you raise him/her:

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”

Yes, I have loved and lived and learned from many wonderful, meaningful quotes throughout every stage of my life.  I am grateful for being able to look into the meanings behind somebody else’s wisdom and takeaway whatever it is that I need to at that moment in my life.

However, there is one quote that I will always keep close to my heart and refer to frequently.  It was given to me in the form of a “best wishes” type card from a dear, sweet friend of mine just about 10 years ago now.  At the time, she wanted to help me through a very rough period in my life.  I was sort of lost and at a crossroads and really needed direction.  I can honestly say that her gift to me in the form of this simple card helped more than she will ever know.

I love these words so much, I keep them framed and hanging above my desk:

And yes, I have used this quote in previous blog posts.  I use it everywhere I feel it is relevant.  Gilda’s straightforward outlook on life’s quick direction changes is like a breath of fresh air to me.  So thanks, Gilda.  And thanks, Darbs.  ;)

Further to this whole quotes thing, just lately I am also in love with these two:

C.S. Lewis

Amen to that!

Anyway – that’s enough quoting for now….

Weekly Photo Challenge: Optimistic

Day 26 of 365:

How do you fuel the fires of optimism?

I always try to start my week in way that makes me feel good.  Yesterday morning (Monday) I snapped two pics with my phone that perfectly sum up what I do to start my day (and the next four days) off on the right foot: (keep in mind, these images were taken at 6 am, so everything is a little dark!)

A healthy, satisfying, pre-workout bowl of plain oatmeal dressed up with pepitas, coconut, and dried cranberries.

My gym bag, packed and ready to go, where it waits for me by the front door.

My simple plan of attack to ward off the Monday Morning Heebie-Jeebies:

  1. Eat a healthy breakfast
  2. Go to the gym

These two simple steps are all I need to get me into a “Glass-Is-Amazingly-Full” frame of mind….

Just Do It. Often.

Morning Routine

Day 25 of 365:

Daily Writing Prompt:

Key Takeaway
Give your newer sisters and brothers-in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences blogging….

This is great because everyone loves to impart their honed knowledge and personal experience in the form of advice upon those that can be considered “Newbies” – right?

Blogging can be a hard nut to crack.  Not just when you are new to it either.  I am speaking from a great deal of experience here.  I have been doing this (off and on) for about 5 years now.   And hey, like all of us, I’ve had my ups and downs.  Believe me, I do not regard myself as being a  pro, but I do believe I have learned a thing or two through gold old-fashioned trail and error.

So here goes: If I can give you, my deliciously eager, fresh-out-of-the-box, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed blogger, one key piece of advice to carry with you through your word-journey, it would be this:

Consistency.  “Blog early and blog often.”  Set up a ritual.  A schedule, if you will.  I’m talking a daily, weekly, monthly appointment.  Set your appointment and try, young blogger, as hard as you can, to stick with it.  Whether your posts are short and to the point, or long, flowing, majestic essays, post them. Or maybe you showcase your own photography or artwork, or write meaningful commentary on current events.  Post!  Perhaps you write from your funny bone with an amazing balance of wit and candor….don’t.  stop.  hitting. publish.  Commitment is key for building your audience, your style, your bravery and your repertoire.  Find the method, schedule, or routine that works for you and do it.  Do it often.

Yes, my young grasshopper.  Treat your blog as if you are in a serious relationship with it.  Roll with the punches.  See it through thick and thin.  Stand your ground and post, post, post.

So give it a go!  The sky is the limit.  Have faith in yourself.  Be patient.  Be humble.

And most importantly…

Have fun!

Namaste and Happy Blogging!

Sunday: Always With A Book

Day 24 of 365:

I am a voracious reader.  As a hopeless romantic and eternal day-dreamer, my books are a magic carpet: I hop on and they take me to wherever I want to go.

A book is a dream that you hold in your hand.

–Neil Gaiman

Happy Sunday!  I hope you get to curl up with your favourite book today.
